How to check if AI recommends your business – a 15-minute test
Before you start optimizing for AI, find out where you stand. This simple test takes about 15 minutes and shows whether AI assistants know and recommend your business – and whom they recommend instead.
Step 1. Prepare 10 questions your customers ask
The best questions are the ones customers really ask. Replace the brackets with your industry, service and city:
- What is the best [service] in [city]?
- Who would you recommend for [specific customer problem]?
- Which [service] company has the best reviews in [city]?
- Compare the best [service] companies in [country].
- [Your company] or [competitor] – which should I choose?
- What do you know about [your company]?
- How much does [service] cost in [city], and who offers it?
- How do I choose a good [specialist]? Who do you recommend?
- Best [products/services] for [customer group].
- I’m looking for [service] near [area/city] – what do you recommend?
Step 2. Ask in clean conditions
AI assistants can tailor answers to your chat history. To see what a new customer sees:
- start a new chat for each question (or use a temporary chat),
- check that memory with information about you is turned off in settings,
- test all four models: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude,
- if the model allows it, turn on web search – that’s usually how customers use it.
Step 3. Record the results in a table
For every question and every model, write down the same information. Example rows:
| Question | Model | Are we there? | Position | Recommended instead | Cited sources |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Best business law firm in Warsaw | ChatGPT | No | – | Law Firm A, B, C | lawfirm-rankings.com |
| Best business law firm in Warsaw | Perplexity | Yes | 3 | Law Firm A, B | yourwebsite.com, industry media |
The data in the table is illustrative. The “Cited sources” column is especially valuable – it shows where it’s worth earning mentions of your business.
Step 4. How to read the results
AI doesn’t know your business at all
The most common scenario. It means there’s too little trustworthy information about the business online. Priority: a clear company description, content that answers customer questions and the first mentions in external sources.
AI knows the business but doesn’t recommend it
The model knows you exist (e.g. it answers “what do you know about [company]?”), but competitors win the recommendations. Usually citations in rankings, comparisons and reviews are missing.
AI gives wrong information
An outdated address, the wrong specialization, old prices. Check where the model gets them from and fix the details wherever they’re inconsistent.
AI recommends your business
Great – now it’s about keeping the position and extending it to more questions and services.
Step 5. Repeat the test every month
AI answers aren’t fixed: they change with model updates and new content online. The same question asked twice can give a slightly different answer. So look at results over a longer period rather than a single test. If you want to know what to do with the results, read 7 steps to get ChatGPT to recommend your business.
Frequently asked questions
Why does ChatGPT give different answers to the same question?
AI models generate each answer from scratch, and with web search they may find different sources. That’s why it’s worth repeating the test and looking at results from several attempts.
Can you run this test for me?
Yes. During the free consultation we check what ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude say about your business and whom they recommend instead.
How often should I repeat the AI visibility test?
Ideally once a month, always with the same set of questions, so the results are easy to compare.
